Sustainable thinking and acting form the foundation of our family business Modiform. Just like nature, we are constantly seeking new paths. Since 1980, we have been recycling raw materials into high-quality and distinctive products and concepts. Every day, we give recycled material a new life. In addition, we look at how we can produce and transport our products sustainably: all our production locations use green electricity, and a large part of our transport is done using HVO diesel.
Modiform has placed a strong focus on sustainability in its strategy. The main priorities are: CO2 reduction, increasing circularity, reducing environmental impact per product, and collaboration within the supply chain. For more information, please also read the Modiform Sustainability Report.
Many companies have yet to start using recycled materials; for Modiform, this is already standard. But Modiform wants to do more, which is why we also focus on other steps on the R-ladder. The R-ladder indicates the degree of circularity.
Recycle: All products delivered by Modiform are recyclable. Moreover, the vast majority of raw materials used by Modiform are recycled. Modiform also takes back used PS products from its customers to recycle them again and reuse them as raw materials for producing new trays. This creates a closed loop.
Reduce: We continuously explore whether we can offer the same functionality while using fewer raw materials. For example, this can be seen in the Refined pots line: less material. Or the introduction of the Pristine tray range, in which no dye is added to the foil.
Reuse: More and more products are being used multiple times. This ranges from propagation trays to transport trays.
Modiform also uses an increasingly broad range of materials; besides recycled plastic, products made from pulp are offered, and tests are currently being conducted with bioplastics. For several years, Modiform has been conducting LCAs (Life Cycle Assessments) for its products to determine the environmental impact of a product and gain insight into how this impact can be further reduced.
Modiform works with its suppliers and customers to make further progress in sustainability. To work circularly, collaboration with various parties is crucial. To further increase and share circular knowledge, Modiform is affiliated with various networks, such as the Horti Sustainable Packaging Initiative (HSPI) and Future Up.
